OK - only now do I realise the lyre piece was a spoof, not the work of JC himself. Please ignore my previous post - except maybe the concluding sentence, which I imagine still applies.

Did come - thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you.
Glad to have met Lydia, albeit briefly, sorry not to have identified myself to Boris.
Anyway, good poetry, good craic, good curry - what's not to like?

Good grief - did the TLS really run that extraordinary piece of juvenile yah-boo-sucks you link to? And HE calls YOU 'little people'?
Even setting aside the tedious playground 'comedy', it seems strange to brandish one's own lack of knowledge or understanding as a critical position. Your reply has all the dignity and intelligence that 'JC' appears to lack.
As to why he should have written such an extraordinary attack in the first place, I can only assume a bad case of Cambridge-envy, or perhaps intellect-envy.

Well, The Lyre has only changed the names of certain individuals to protect their identity—so it's the same in structure and, quotations aside, content... Otherwise—I'd go into a newsagent, read it quickly and then leg it. It's a little long to transcribe here/now... Sorry!
